Legislature
Another shot that turned out fairly well from the recent walk with Diane. This is of the Alberta Legislature located in downtown Edmonton. It is a beautiful area to go walking around when the weather is nice.

On my recent trek through the river valley toward the Alberta Legislature, I got this photo of the high level bridge (also known as the 109th street bridge). I rather like how it turned out :)
I went on a walk in the river valley yesterday with Diane. It was rather nice to get out and get some exercise and enjoy the sunshine! I even had my camera so I got several pretty decent shots which I'll be sharing over the next few days. Here's a closeup of some flowers on a mayday tree.
I am incredibly happy with this photo. I took this photo out of a moving minivan on the way home from my sister's first ticketed recital (she plays the harp). So this was out of a moving car through a tinted window that wasn't terribly clean, and this photo *still* turned out amazing.
Enjoy!
Diane and I went to Vancouver for a friend's wedding a couple years ago, and made a bit of a trip out of it. We drove my dad's car from Edmonton to Vancouver, stopping at a couple camp grounds and Diane's Aunt and Uncle's place along the way. This photo was taken at one of the campgrounds we stayed at. It was a beautiful day at the lakefront.
I'm done my week-long look at some of my old photos. I'll return to posting some newer photos for awhile before I once again return to my archives!
This is on the same trip that this photo was taken. When we passed by this spot on the way up, I immediately flagged it as a spot to take a photo. On the way back down, I handed my camera to my very capable friend Kepi who got the amazing photo of Diane and I. To this day, it is one of my favourite photos in my collection.
I'm on the left, and yes, I had a ponytail at the time :)
Continuing with my adding of old photos, here's a photo of my girlfriend, Diane, on her convocation day. Isn't she pretty? :) This is probably the best of the photos I took that day, but there were several others that also turned out pretty well.
A few years ago a group of us went to visit the farm that my friend grew up at. It was a really fun trip, involving some quad-ing around the countryside and saying hello to the livestock. The cows were quite curious about us and actually gathered in a big ring around us. It was mildly frightening ... but the cows didn't do much more than get close enough for some rather interesting photo opportunities. I rather like this particular shot.
I still have several old photos to upload... I think I'll keep up with the one-a-day rate until I've caught up with a pretty spectacular sunset picture I took this past weekend!
This is a pretty old photo from several years ago. At the time I was a member of the 8th Edmonton Rover Crew, and we took a weekend getaway to bond as a crew. It was a pretty fun weekend, and as part of it I got this photo with most of the crew looking out on the lake. It is definitely one of my favourites!
I am continuing my look back on some old photos I've got in my collection.
On a hike some of my buddies and I went on a few years ago, we hiked up a ravine in Southern Alberta and found this cave in the middle of a large hill (or small mountain?). It was a little bit of a tiring climb so we stopped at the top to survey the scene. This photo was not posed for or anything. I just happened to be farther back in the cave than this couple and the shot was screaming to be taken. This is definitely one of my old favourites.
A gorgeous sunset I witnessed a few years ago near my parents house (where I was living at the time). I remember being disappointed with the end result I got with my camera, so this must've been one hell of a scene in real life. I'm glad I took the photo though because now it is good to be able to see at least some of the glory of that sunset.
I'm going to be uploading some "old" photos that I've been holding in reserve for awhile. I have lots of these, so I'll be working my way through these slowly. Some, like this one, will be ones from my old canon powershot A10. Some will be ones from my Rebel XT that I haven't uploaded yet.
Enjoy!
This is the sculptures visible from the south side of the Student's Union Building at the University of Alberta. I actually really like how this photo turned out for some reason. Not too sure why.
I've been paying more and more attention to my Flickr photos over the last little while. I will continue to upload photos on a regular basis, but now they will all be in full resolution size (since I have a pro account now). I went through and replaced all my previous photos with their full resolution versions as well. So that's that. Next week, I think I'm going to start uploading some old photos so that I can get them up and into the public eye. I've been sitting on them just a bit too long - and some of them go back to my powershot A10 days!
I need your help! The 24 Hours of Flickr day has passed and I took a handful of photos which I must now choose ONE to enter into the contest. A set of photos will be selected from the submitted photos and will either be printed in a book or used in future Flickr events during the summer. I was rather excited at the opportunity to submit a photo, so I took a few photos in and around the poker tournament yesterday so I could submit a photo. I've narrowed the selection down to 5 photos and would like to garner any opinions on which one I should select. Here, in no particular order, are the 5 photographs:
If you have an opinion, please leave me a comment here or on the appropriate photo's flickr page within the next couple of days. I'd like to submit a photo fairly soon.
Thanks! Heraldk
I'm still playing catchup with my Muttart photos. Another flower I can't identify (notice a pattern?). I think it's rather pretty though.
I'm gonna have to start posting more often than a couple times a week at this rate. I think my bank of images to post to my blog is growing faster than my rate of posting.
Anyways, today's photo is of fellow flickr-ite one42chrisp. Once again, I don't often take photos of people, but I rather like how this turned out.
I think I need to make a conscious effort to take more photos of people and post them here more often. I tend to get more distracted by scenery and pretty things, and avoid people... and then when I'm forced to take photos of people I'm not as practiced at it as I should be. So ... something for me to keep in mind.
At the recent Edmonton Flickr meet, joelkelly was kind enough to lend me his lensbaby lens to play with. I got this rather intriguing shot with it. What do you think of the effect? Kinda neat huh?
Once again, I have no idea how to identify flowers (I'm so useless at it). Anyways, I'm sure that just about everyone at the flickr meet got a photo of one of these flowers. They are rather pretty. This particular shot I got with my new Sigma lens. I really need to take that lens out for a bunch of photos - I've taken a bunch with my Canon 50mm, but not nearly as many with the Sigma. I will have to find time to do that in the near future :)
Thanks to bcblack61 for identifying the flower for me!
After some time taking photos at the Muttart Conservatory, 5 of us left and went on to the pub to partake in some food and drink. I snapped this photo on the way out, also with my canon 50mm lens.
Today I attended a random meetup with other Flickr members from Edmonton. There wasn't a huge turnout, but I got to meet at least a few other Flickr members from around my hometown. We met up at the Muttart conservatory, and spent some time wandering around taking photographs. I got to try out my new lenses: A Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 and a Canon 50mm f/1.4. So shiny! :)
This is by far my favourite shot from the day. Of course, I forgot to take a shot of the nametag, and since I don't know anything about flowers -- I can't identify this for you. But it sure is pretty! This shot was with my new Canon lens.
So it was a pretty cool day. After the Muttart a few Flickr members ended up at the Sherlock Holme's pub downtown. It was good fun.
I don't often take people photos, so my experience at the recent Family Reunion I was at was really good practice taking this sort of photo. This rather adorable child is one of my relatives, Sophie.
